Learning to Efficiently Curate Digital Health Information
Let's just take a moment to highlight that this is a work in progress for me... Since beginning my MHST601 course a couple of weeks ago, I am slowly but surely learning a variety of online tools to utilize.
When it comes to my studies, Google scholar and my university libraries are my go-to's for scholarly articles and credible resources. I typically look out for peer-reviewed articles that are both recent and relevant to my profession and area of interest.
Once I access the information I need, I utilize my OneDrive folders to save and organize documents. I find it convenient as I can access it remotely from work. Since this is apart of a personal reflection, I will admit that prior to this course I did not utilize any tools or systems other than Word Documents. Although, through my preparation for this course, I have started utilizing Zotero to organize information and research. So far it appears that Zotero will allow me to quickly find and save research documents that I find useful for projects, write personal notes and assist in properly citing documents. It is now linked through my Google Chrome and installed on my laptop. I am still learning this system and hope that it will be able to help me optimize my curation and organization of information.
If you are interested in checking out Zotero- I suggest checking them out online at the link below.
I am also now exploring Microsoft OneNote to assemble, organize, and share a variety of digital resources (articles, webpages, videos). So far, I have separated the documents in two topics:
My next task involves enriching these folders with information that I will am curating. I feel that this will be an easy way to share my findings and interests with my professor and colleagues. So far I enjoy how the link is easily sharable to those within my Athabasca University organization. Moving forward, these links will be easily accessible under my "Resources" tab.
As I mentioned, this is a work in progress! But I am quite proud of my progress so far and I am looking forward to learning more as my studies progress.
